! This is a rare creature/object. It may only be scanned in one or few encounters.

Ing Webtraps are rare enemies featured in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes that appear only once in the entire game. Found in the Dark Agon Wastes on Dark Aether, they block all the doors of the Battleground when Samus battles a group of Warrior Ings for a Dark Temple Key. Once all Warrior Ing are killed, the Ing Webtraps are removed from the doors and are never seen again, making their Logbook entry critical to obtain. They are very similar in appearance to the Weblings, but unlike the latter, they cannot be damaged by any of Samus's weapons, only disappearing once Samus has eliminated all of the surrounding Ing that summoned the Ing Webtraps.

Oddly, when viewing the creature's Logbook entry model, its model appears as a Luminoth Webbing, which does not match its dark Webling-like appearance.

Development data[]

Internally, this creature's name is Weblock. Curiously, an unseen Luminoth Webbing is located within the Judgment Pit during the battle with the Jump Guardian, which behaves identical to an Ing Webtrap. Internal data reveals this type of webbing to be Weblock, which is identical to an Ing Webtrap. The existence of the Luminoth Webbing version of the Ing Webtrap remains unclear; it is possible this may be a leftover during initial development. It is possible the original design of the Ing Webtrap may have used the Luminoth Webbing model, which may explain why that model appears in the Logbook.

Although the Ing Webtrap itself does not make an appearance within the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Bonus Disc, two related Logbook entries are present in the unused Data Network menu; the Luminoth Webbing and the Dark Webbing. Both of these creature's entries bear no text, only a model each. Both webs are also scannable during the demo's gameplay. The Luminoth Webbing's entry may have been repurposed for the Ing Webtrap's entry during development, with the former's model carried over, as the webbing itself is no longer scannable in the final game.
