Join Samus Aran in classic Nintendo games! (Nintendo Switch) is a 30 second trailer uploaded to YouTube by Nintendo UK in July 2024. The trailer promotes the five games in the 2D Metroid series that are available through Nintendo Switch Online: Metroid, Metroid II: Return of Samus, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission.
The trailer can be viewed here.
Description[]
The trailer consists of gameplay clips of the five 2D Metroid games, Metroid, Return of Samus, Super, Fusion and Zero Mission, the latter having been added to Nintendo Switch Online the month prior. A male British narrator explains that over 150 games in general are available through NSO without mentioning Metroid specifically. He also mentions how players can purchase the Expansion Pack subscription tier, which includes Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Advance games (including Fusion and Zero Mission regarding the latter).
Gameplay clips include Samus jumping up the "blue-tinted shaft" in Metroid, fighting Ridley at the start of Super Metroid, fighting the first Alpha Metroid in Return of Samus, fighting Arachnus in Fusion, and running towards the Morph Ball in Corridor No. 1 in Zero Mission. The clips are briefly interrupted by the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack promotional image showing everything the tier provides, with the word "Alternatively..." in the top left corner. At the end of the clips, the name of each Metroid title is displayed in a list along with their release years, the copyright symbol and Nintendo's name, denoting them as the publisher.
Music used includes the jingle that plays when a Metroid is killed in Return of Samus, the Brinstar theme from Metroid and Zero Mission, Vs. Ridley in Super Metroid, "Vs. Metroid" in Return of Samus and VS. Marukara in Fusion. The music tracks play in the background during the gameplay clips, as they would in their native games.
