The Judgment Pit is a room in the Dark Agon Wastes. It appears in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. It is a mid-sized room featuring mining machinery on the sides of the room and a tall overlooking cliff housing a Luminoth Statue. Many Light Beacons are present, in addition to a Light Crystal in the center of the room.

It is here that Samus battles the Jump Guardian to reclaim her stolen Space Jump Boots. Several Bladepods surround the central Light Crystal's wide Safe Zone, this large Safe Zone aids Samus in her battle. During the battle, a large metal wall rises up in between two mechanical walls, blocking access to a small hallway. This metal wall lowers back into the ground once the Space Jump Boots are collected.

The Aetherian version of this room is Mining Station A.

Trivia[]

  • The room's internal name is 02_sand_sandfalls_dark.
  • The battle with the Jump Guardian officially starts once Samus touches the center Safe Zone. If Samus avoids this and uses Bomb Jumps to reach the higher ground area, she can reach the Dark Agon Temple without the Space Jump Boots.
  • In the GameCube version, the Jump Guardian is loaded before the battle, albeit invisible. Because of this, Samus can damage the invisible Ing. This allows Samus to almost completely drain the boss's health before the battle officially starts, sparing her an extended battle.[1] The boss cannot be "defeated" in this invisible state. Samus can also get close to the beast using Bomb Jumps to reach the higher ledges. She will receive minor contact damage the first few times she touches the partially loaded boss, after which the creature no longer inflicts damage while in its invisible state. This oddity was fixed in Trilogy.
  • When Samus battles the Jump Guardian, all Light Beacons curiously vanish. This is likely to prevent Samus from sheltering outside the center Safe Zone. Curiously, the Light Crystal next to the Red Hatch remains, providing a vantage point outside the center area. The Light Beacons return once the creature is defeated.
  • Using Sequence Breaking, it is possible to load two Warrior Ing into the room during the battle with the Jump Guardian. If this is done, sometimes the Jump Guardian will become blocked by a solid Warrior Ing as it attempts to run past it. Other times, the Jump Guardian's large size may push Warrior Ing into the large center Safe Zone.
  • Very curiously, Luminoth Webbing is seen applied to a locked door behind the large metal wall during battle. This can only be seen using out of bounds or a free-view modded camera. The webling may have been a leftover from the game during development, specifically from data within the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Bonus Disc where Luminoth Webbing was at one point considered a scannable creature. Both this webbing and the Blast Shield behind it are unscannable.
    • Internal data refers to this type of Luminoth Webbing as Weblock, which is somewhat unusual as this is the same internal name used by the Ing Webtrap, another type of web-like door blocker. Although both species appear identical in terms of behavior, the Weblock in this room uses a Luminoth Webbing model.
  • The metal wall that blocks the hallway is referred to internally as a Blocker.
