Keiko Toda (戸田 恵子 Toda Keiko ) (born September 12, 1957) is a Japanese actress, voice actress, singer and dubbing artist. She is best known for her role as Anpanman in the anime Soreike! Anpanman, and as the Japanese dub Thomas the Tank Engine in Thomas & Friends (seasons 1-8). Toda was also Sigourney Weaver's dubbing artist for all four Alien films, and has dubbed for other Hollywood actresses, including Jodie Foster, Jamie Lee Curtis, Bonnie Hunt, Annie Potts, Linda Hamilton, Sandra Bullock, Michelle Pfeiffer and Carrie Anne Moss.
Toda was the first actress to provide a speaking voice for Samus Aran, in the Super Metroid Promotional Preview, a promotional video played at Japanese game stores prior to the game's release. She narrated multiple gameplay clips as Samus, most of them reacting to events taking place. Toda was not credited and her identity, never mind the promotional video itself, was mostly unknown to Western audiences. The Metroid Database published an English translation of the video in 2014, and an investigation by Shinesparkers in 2022 confirmed Toda's identity.[1] Toda, through her staff, directly confirmed her role to Shinesparkers in 2024.[2]
