Utsumi narrated the Japanese live-action commercial for the original Metroid, which was the first commercial for the series. His narration was partly synthesized in the beginning, to reflect the robotic nature of Samus Aran. A transcript of his narration in Japanese, romanized and English is below.
“ | 銀河連邦指令 メトロイドを破壊せよ! 地底深く広がる迷路要塞に Ginga renpo shirei, Metoroido o hakai seyo! The Galactic Federation orders you to destroy the Metroids! |

Utsumi's role in the commercial only came to light years after his death, when an investigation by Shinesparkers determined he was the narrator.[1] Coincidentally, Utsumi was the dubbing artist for Charles S. Dutton in Alien 3, a film for which Keiko Toda, who voiced Samus Aran in the Super Metroid Promotional Preview, was also a dubbing artist (for Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley).
Death[]
Utsumi died in Tokyo of cancerous peritonitis on June 13, 2013, at the age of 75.[2]
