Kraid's Lair Entrance

The entrance to Kraid's Lair in Super Metroid.

Kraid's Lair, also known as Brinstar Depths, Kraid's Hideout or simply Kraid, was an area in Metroid, Super Metroid and Metroid: Zero Mission. It is the place where Samus Aran battles the Space Pirate enforcer, Kraid. Kraid's Lair is part of Brinstar. It also appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee as a stage with the name Brinstar Depths.

Description

Kraid's Lair is easily identifiable by the many spikes decorating the walls, floors and ceilings. Kraid himself often fires spikes that can implant themselves in the walls, as well. In Samus' first mission on Zebes, the lair was far more organic than Ridley's, consisting mainly of rocks and plants with little visible technology. However, In Super Metroid the area is largely industrialized, (most likely by the Space Pirates) and there are scarce signs of greenery, save some vines and Kraid's room. In the same game, there is a large presence of Space Pirates in the form of green Kihunters and Green Zebesians which patrol the rooms prior to the chambers belonging to Kraid and Mini-Kraid.
