"Kraid's room access" is a room in Cataris. It appears in Metroid Dread.
Description[]
This is a large, winding passage with multiple levels. It begins in an insulated upper floor with a narrow tunnel leading into another room, which leads back into the rest of this room via a door. The rest of Kraid's room access is superheated, and cannot be safely visited without the Varia Suit. At the beginning of the heated shaft is a small slope leading to a lava pool, with a wall of Beam Blocks above it, attached to a section of wall in the background. Two holographs on either side display Chozo letters spelling "REM" and "KER",[1] which are also seen other shafts in Cataris. Their meaning is unknown. Behind the brittle wall is a pair of holes through which Rock Divers indefinitely launch themselves. This platform gives way to a narrow passage into which the Morph Ball can fit, which ends abruptly, dropping Samus down another level.
On this level is a tight corridor with multiple gaps Samus can either Slide or roll through, and a screen transition. Broken machinery and cables are present in the background. There is another drop here down to the left (with another screen transition), where the environment is more natural save for a large, curved pipe protruding from two lava pools. It might be part of the thermal energy system on ZDR, although a small fire has broken out on its side. Other notable features include stalactites and thin channels of flowing lava. Beyond this is a passage with a Breakable Organic Block at the end, which exposes a tunnel leading into another room. At the base of that room, Samus re-enters Kraid's room access and can reach Kraid. Another Breakable Organic Block here can be destroyed to remove part of the floor and allow access to the rest of this room.
At the bottom of the room is a one-way drop with multiple Pit Blocks, which puts Samus into Kraid's room. On her first visit, Kraid roars when she nears this. To the right of this is a rock formation in the ceiling and floor with jagged rock resembling teeth, and appearing to have eyes carved into them. This is a subtle reference to a similar "face" found in the architecture of the two "Kraid's room access" halls on Zebes (as seen in Metroid and Super Metroid, but not Metroid: Zero Mission).[2] Once Kraid is killed, this passage is blocked by an impenetrable rock, forcing Samus to return to Kraid's room the other way if she wishes to do so.
