Krysta Yang (born May 18, 1984) is a former Public Relations Manager for Nintendo of America, which she joined in 2007. Along with Kit Ellis, Yang hosted Nintendo Minute from 2013-2021, when the California Nintendo office from which they were based was closed. Ellis and Yang left Nintendo in 2022, not wanting to relocate to the Redmond, Washington headquarters, and subsequently launched their own podcast, The Kit & Krysta Podcast.

Early career[]

Before joining Nintendo, Yang worked as a records management assistant and interim supervisor for McManis Faulkner for two years. She joined Nintendo in 2007 as a Corporate Affairs Assistant, before moving up the public relations ladder. Yang was key in the establishment of Nintendo's social media presence.

Involvement with Metroid[]

As a Public Relations Manager for Nintendo, Yang was part of the marketing campaigns for Metroid: Other M (in a "marginal" role)[1], Metroid Prime: Federation Force, Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid Dread. In addition to promoting the latter three games on Nintendo Minute, Ellis and Yang organized Eric Maruscak's chalk mural based on Other M at PAX 2010.[2]

Yang enjoyed Other M in contrast to many fans who did not, although she found some moments in it "cringe".[1] She has admitted to disliking Federation Force and the surprise countdowns at the end of Metroid games, and struggling with Raven Beak at the end of Dread.[3] Further, Yang said that the Federation Force episode of Nintendo Minute was her least favorite,[4] and she responded "Yuck!" when, while attempting to get a Nintendo 3DS StreetPass in 2022, Ellis told her he had a Federation Force cartridge in his 3DS.

Yang was present at a Nintendo photoshoot in 2017 featuring John Cena, who asked for a new 2D Metroid game.[5]

After leaving Nintendo, Yang and Ellis appeared on The Shinesparkers Podcast in March 2023.[6]
