Lenka Volfová is a Czech former model and teacher. She portrayed Samus Aran in the Past is Prologue live-action commercial for Metroid: Other M.
Her identity was unknown for many years until a user added it to Wikitroid's article for Past is Prologue in September 2021. The user had asked the commercial's director, Filip Engstrom, for Volfová's name and provided it without citing Engstrom's email, having lost it[1]. Subsequently, Volfová gave an interview to Shinesparkers in January 2022, confirming her role.[2]
Past is Prologue[]
Volfová had begun modeling in 2009. When asked to audition for Past is Prologue, she commuted through Prague to attend the casting, which consisted of multiple rounds. Volfová was one of two finalists for the role, and received a call back late in the evening. She believed that her mobility and endurance were key to her being cast as Samus.
She was not a gamer and was unfamiliar with the Metroid series prior to being cast; all she knew was that the client for the commercial was Nintendo. She was given basic details about the story of Metroid: Other M, but nothing else. Volfová recalled that because of her Zero Suit costume, she was treated "like a princess" and even carried to the bathroom.
Volfová admitted that she had never seen the commercial, and it never aired in the Czech Republic. She was also unfamiliar with Jessica Erin Martin (Samus's voice actress in Other M who also narrated the commercial) or Yoshio Sakamoto.[2]
After the commercial[]
Volfová said that the commercial increased her confidence and showed her anything was possible. She subsequently played roles in other Czech commercials, such as a gymnast, rock star and a teacher. She now works in education policy in Prague, Czech Republic. At the time of her interview with Shinesparkers, Volfová was expecting her first child.[2]
