The Leviathan Shield is a model of gigantic Space Pirate shield. Designed around Leviathan Seeds, their purpose is to prevent any foreign interference with the Leviathan so that it may completely corrupt a planet. Two are seen in place over the Leviathans that have impacted the planets Bryyo and Elysia during the events of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
Description[]
The shield is a translucent blue and has pulsating blue nodes of varying shades. Two transmitters are in place opposite on the top of the shield. The transmitters receive power via two separate Seed Shield Generators. These generators are forged of Maldium, and are thus immune to portable weaponry. These two generators are located nearby the shield and are powered by a supply of Fuel Gel. On Bryyo, the generators are situated above lakes of the substance, and so have a near endless supply.
Appearances[]
On Bryyo, the Pirates have fitted two Anti-Air Cannon "Tiamat" turrets at the west Generator in Bryyo Thorn Jungle, and are in the process of building another at Bryyo Fire. Samus Aran is able to destroy both generators using her newly acquired Ship Missiles and disable the Leviathan Shield.
However, the generators on Elysia are deep inside the clouds of the planet, and so are impossible to reach directly. Samus tracks down Aurora Unit 217 on SkyTown and he formulates a plan to destroy the shield. Samus is sent to assemble a Theronian Bomb, a weapon that can completely wipe out the shield without destroying the generators. The bomb is placed in the Spire Pod, which is detached from SkyTown and flies towards the seed. Samus manages to reach the Leviathan after heavy Pirate resistance. She drops the entire Spire on the shield, an action that sets off the Theronian Bomb and eradicates the Leviathan Shield. Samus escapes using a Chozo Escape Pod with seconds to spare.
The Leviathan on the Pirate Homeworld is protected by a planetary shield that covers the whole planet, and so it does not require a Leviathan Shield for protection.
Trivia[]
- The Cipher on Tallon IV could be seen as a Leviathan Shield, although it hinders the Leviathan's corruption, rather than enabling it. In both cases, the shields act to prevent beings from entering the seeds.
