A "lightSwarm"[1] is the only name for a small flying and light-emitting creature seen only within the Sky Temple. It is likely they are native to Dark Aether, despite their anti-dark attribute.
In Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, it is "summoned" by the Mutated Emperor Ing to both provide a minor barrier and to also feed upon. They appear to be the opposite of Dark Aetherian Nightbarbs that can also be summoned by the Emperor. They fly in swarms and will scatter if shot at, letting out a shriek.
Trivia[]
- The Airthorns seen earlier in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes are also a counterpart to Nightbarbs, as they behave similarly to the latter seen in the wild outside of the Sky Temple.
- In Metroid Prime 2: Echoes: The Official Nintendo Player's Guide, they are described as "white squiggly things".[2]
- These creatures drop an abnormally large amount of Energy Capsules and ammunition pickups.
- These creatures are actually particle effects.
