List of rooms in Metroid

The links above provide the lists of rooms for their respective areas in Metroid. Any unused, inaccessible, or otherwise special case rooms will be listed below. Any room that has an official proper name or otherwise meets the parameters in the room policy may be eligible for an article of its own.

Surface of Zebes

The "surface of Zebes" is glimpsed on the Title Screen and in the endings of Metroid. It has a space background and a golden-brown ground surface. It is not possible to explore this area in-game. In the endings, Samus Aran stands on the surface and will remove her Power Suit, revealing she is a woman depending on which ending was earned. For more information, see here.

Elevator shafts

While present in all areas under the same room number 01, the "elevator shafts" are coloured differently depending on the area, an aspect that can be easily observed during play. The rooms are otherwise identical.

From the upper elevator rooms (Transport to Tourian, Transport to Norfair, Kraid Elevator, and Ridley Elevator), outside the regular elevator sequence, access to these shafts is prevented by a special barrier; the engine however does allow free access from the lower elevator rooms (Tourian entrance shaft, Brinstar-to-Norfair elevator shaft, Kraid entrance shaft, and Eerie Cave).

Inaccessible Norfair rooms

Three rooms within Norfair exist in the game's map, but are inaccessible. These are copies of ingame rooms, such as the blue-bubble shaft.

The hall below the shaft is inaccessible.

The left door does not lead anywhere.

The lower left door leads to nowhere.

Unused rooms

There are also five rooms that are inaccessible and not present on the map.

A room in Brinstar with a door that is similar to the right side of Corridor No. 1. No enemies are present.

A partial corridor in Brinstar with an Item Sphere atop a vertical pillar. Although the Item Sphere's placement suggests the presence of an item, it is in fact empty.

A hallway-type room (used for palette transitions) in Kraid's Lair. There are no such hallways there in-game.

The same kind of room in Tourian, which has no palette transitions either. The graphics in this room are unique; the dark grey squares in the hall are in the foreground, so Samus is placed behind them.
