Transport to Artaria[]
The elevator that connects Cataris to Artaria. To the left is a wall consisting of Fake Blocks that Samus Aran must shoot to proceed during her first visit to Cataris.

Kraid's room access[]
"Kraid's room access" is a room in Cataris. It appears in Metroid Dread. This is a large, winding passage with multiple levels. It begins in an insulated upper floor with a narrow tunnel leading into another room, which leads back into the rest of this room via a door. The rest of Kraid's room access is superheated, and cannot be safely visited without the Varia Suit. At the beginning of the heated shaft is a small slope leading to a lava pool, with a wall of Beam Blocks above it, attached to a section of wall in the background. Two holographs on either side display Chozo letters spelling "REM" and "KER",[1] which are also seen other shafts in Cataris. Their meaning is unknown. Behind the brittle wall is a pair of holes through which Rock Divers indefinitely launch themselves. This platform gives way to a narrow passage into which the Morph Ball can fit, which ends abruptly, dropping Samus down another level.
On this level is a tight corridor with multiple gaps Samus can either Slide or roll through, and a screen transition. Broken machinery and cables are present in the background. There is another drop here down to the left (with another screen transition), where the environment is more natural save for a large, curved pipe protruding from two lava pools. It might be part of the thermal energy system on ZDR, although a small fire has broken out on its side. Other notable features include stalactites and thin channels of flowing lava. Beyond this is a passage with a Breakable Organic Block at the end, which exposes a tunnel leading into another room. At the base of that room, Samus re-enters Kraid's room access and can reach Kraid. Another Breakable Organic Block here can be destroyed to remove part of the floor and allow access to the rest of this room.
At the bottom of the room is a one-way drop with multiple Pit Blocks, which puts Samus into Kraid's room. On her first visit, Kraid roars when she nears this. To the right of this is a rock formation in the ceiling and floor with jagged rock resembling teeth, and appearing to have eyes carved into them. This is a subtle reference to a similar "face" found in the architecture of the two "Kraid's room access" halls on Zebes (as seen in Metroid and Super Metroid, but not Metroid: Zero Mission).[2] Once Kraid is killed, this passage is blocked by an impenetrable rock, forcing Samus to return to Kraid's room the other way if she wishes to do so.

Kraid's room[]
"Kraid's room" is a room in Cataris on ZDR. It is the location where Kraid was held captive by the Mawkin tribe and where Samus Aran battles him in Metroid Dread. Kraid's room is located on the lower-left corner of Cataris and entered from above via a Morph Ball tunnel. One of the largest open rooms in the area, it mainly consists of metal architecture around a wide (though relatively shallow) lava pool. Embers float off the surface of the lava indefinitely. Despite there being a faintly visible hole in the ceiling from Samus' Morph Ball, this is a one-way drop. Also, the entrance from the upper side becomes blocked off by rubble after Samus has fallen down. Kraid is held captive in the lava by restraints bound to the wall behind him; there is a large opening under this wall that allows access to the next room on the right. To the left (in front of Kraid) is a platform for visitors that keeps them safe from the lava below. After Kraid's death, what appear to be bones or jagged rocks can be found in the lava.
The walls in this room appear rockier and less artificial in the second image of the Chozo Archives, which depicts Mawkin Chozo Soldiers imprisoning Kraid. They may have been refurbished after the time of the image.

Diffusion chamber[]
The "Diffusion chamber" is a superheated room with multiple entrances into two different rooms. It is accessed immediately after defeating Kraid through a tunnel behind him. There is a Chozo Statue in here that holds the Diffusion Beam upgrade, and a door that is permanently locked from this side. When acquired, Samus can leave the room by destroying a Breakable Organic Block above said door, which exposes a tunnel above it. Later, when she has the Gravity Suit, Samus can dive into the lava of Kraid's room to find another tunnel leading into a partly submerged, maze-like passage under the chamber's floor. By navigating the maze - which partially consists of Bomb and Pit Blocks - Samus can find a Power Bomb Tank behind a Grapple Beam Block. It is possible to acquire the expansion before the item itself, although doing so produces a message saying "An unknown resource has been acquired. You cannot use this item yet."
