Luminoth Webbing

Luminoth Webbing

Luminoth Webbing is not named in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, however it is referred to as such by the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Bonus Disc. It is the first obstacle that Samus faces after crash-landing on Aether. Despite this name, however, its scan in the final game indicates that it is instead most likely created and/or used by the spider-like creatures known as Splinters.

It contains a shell that breaks when Samus shoots it, with the rest of the web fading. Samus encounters entire webs and shells in Landing Site, Hive Chamber A, Hive Tunnel and Transport to Agon Wastes.

Curiously, there is a creature called Webling in the same game which has an identical structure except for its dark purple color, red glowing lights spread throughout its web and an eyeball in the center instead of a shell. Their similarities strongly imply that the Webling organism is a Luminoth Webbing possessed by an Ing; in other words, a Darkling. The Weblings are described by their "Dark Webbing" in the Bonus Disc of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. However, neither of their scans mention any relation between the Luminoth Webbing and Webling.

Logbook entry

Obstacle composed of tensile biomaterial. Conventional weapon fire will be insufficient to destroy obstacle.

  • If the Webling is indeed the Darkling variant of the Luminoth Webbing, it is entirely unique in its category due to the fact that Ings usually require their hosts to be either an organic being or a synthetic being such as a robot or android. The Luminoth Webbing, however, is simply an inanimate object.
  • Luminoth Webbing is referred to as a Shell of Acidic Fluid on the Metroid Prime 2 Echoes Website.
