This article is about the mechanism. For the room, see Main Energy Controller (room).

The Main Energy Controller is, as the name indicates, the main energy controller that maintains the planet Aether. The device, guarded by U-Mos, contains a portion of the light of Aether, a form of energy responsible for keeping the planet stable and habitable. This machine receives and regulates the light beams broadcast from the other three sectors of Aether, and serves as a central nexus for the planetary energy supply and light-based teleportation system.

The Main Energy Controller was the only such device to remain fully powered throughout the duration of the Luminoth-Ing War – all other Energy Controllers were overrun by the Ing and drained of energy in order to revive Dark Aether and destabilize its twin. At the beginning of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, the Ing were moving towards the Controller, but the assault was halted by Samus Aran and the energy preserved.

The device is physically identical to the regular Energy Controllers installed in other sectors, although it lacks the characteristic socket for the Energy Transfer Module. However, once the device is activated by U-Mos, it is revealed to contain the Light Suit within its central bulb. The energy chamber above it is also identical to the ones above the other Energy Controllers, except for the fact that it possesses three apertures as opposed to just one.
