The Main Lift is a room in Bryyo Fire. It appears in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
Description[]
The Main Lift consists of three parts: an initial entryway, an internal cave only accessible in Morph Ball form, and an elevator shaft.
The initial entrance is a small chamber with a grate over a pool of Fuel Gel. To the right is a Bryyo Data entry, "Age of Schism", concealed behind a panel mounting that can be ripped off with the Grapple Lasso. The elevator shaft can be barely seen from the upper left, through another grate in the ceiling. It is possible to scan ice in that portion from here. To proceed, Samus must enter a small tunnel in the base of the wall in front of her with her Morph Ball.
This takes her into the internal cave, which has a heavily cracked wall and floor and multiple side ledges. A Korba is present at the top of this cave; its maw protruding from the rock, while its long body can be seen embedded into the wall on the right. To climb the cave, Samus must allow several Snatchers to attach to her Morph Ball and carry her upwards. Laying a Bomb will kill them and release her. Samus must use the Snatchers to reach a pair of tunnels on ledges to the left; the highest one leads to a Missile Expansion (see below) and the other leads into the elevator. A Bryyo Bomb plant is present on one ledge in its only appearance in Corruption; it can be killed with a Bomb.
Once Samus exits the cave through the lowermost tunnel, she emerges in a closed chamber with a lift and a frozen maw to her right. It is encased in ice that can be melted with the Plasma Beam, though not initially. Next to this are a pair of cages in the wall, with the corpses of two starved Reptilicus prisoners, one of whom died trying to escape his cell. The titular Main Lift can be activated by pulling down a lever using the Grapple Lasso. At the bottom of the lift is the room's exit.
By necessity, Samus will revisit this room after acquiring the Plasma Beam, as removing the ice blockage with it leads her to Bryyo Ice. This is where the Screw Attack, which she needs to explore SkyTown, is located.
Connecting rooms[]
- Gel Refinery Site (via Blue Door)
- Corrupted Pool (via Red Blast Shield)
- Warp Site Alpha (via Orange Door)

- Samus must be carried by the Snatchers to the upper path of the Morph Ball tunnel. In this upper path is another tunnel that leads to the Expansion.
Scans[]
- Panel
- "Panel mountings appear to be weak from age. May be ripped off with enough force."
- Age of Schism
- "In time, the wonders of Science were not enough for those who held the Primal Traditions in their hearts. The warning of the Chozo--to seek balance between old and new ways--were not heeded by the Lords of Science, myself included. We forged on, ignorant of the rage in the hearts of the Primals. The time came when Sfimas, first Lord of Science, denounced the Primals and their Traditions in the center of the Royal City. It was as flame to dry forest. Age of Science ended, and the Age of Schism was born."
- Ice
- "Abnormal energy signatures detected beyond this frozen formation. High-temp Beams could melt the ice."
- Elevator (inactive)
- "Lift system is based on an archaic design and requires manual operation to activate."
- Lever
- "Elevator control lever needs to be pulled in order to activate the platform."
- Reptilicus corpse (1)
- "Like most prisoners, this Reptilicus was sealed inside a cell and starved to death."
- Reptilicus corpse (2)
- "This Reptilicus prisoner appears to have died while struggling to escape his cell."
Development notes[]
The room's internal name is 0j_bryyo_korba, referencing the Korba housed here with its Snatchers. The keyword bryyo indicates the planet Bryyo, and the prefix 0j indicates that this is the tenth of 23 sets of junction room throughout the planet.
Matt Manchester designed this room and Amanda Rotella provided lighting. Manchester's notes are below:
"Icicles! Working with one of the particle artists, Sean Horton, I covered the ceiling of this room with icicles that are slowly dripping at their ends, in the eternal ebb and flow of temperature in this room between the portal to the frozen side of Bryyo on one side, and the sweltering heat of the Fire lands to the other side. I had made some Bryyo native skeletons to arrange in ceremonial burial poses, but didn't end up working on the room they were intended for, so I placed them in here, within the tomb alcoves built into this section, for crimes long since forgotten."
