Mari Yoshimura

Mari Yoshimura #2 (マリ・ヨシムラ 2号 Mari Yoshimura ni-gō?) is the pet armadillo-like creature of Samus Aran in the Metroid-related comics in The Shape of Happiness. His name, Mari, is a possible pun on "Maru-Mari", the original name for the Morph Ball, which would also refer to the similar ability possessed by an armadillo. Samus calls him "Mari Yo", which sounds similar to Mario. Mari precedes Pyonchi as Samus's pet.

Mari Yoshimura appears in the first of the three stories. The only vocalization he makes is the word "cheep". Mari dies while defending Samus from a Metroid posing as a bellboy. A furious Samus vows to kill Mother Brain as revenge.
