Maridia Rocky Underwater Area (マリーディア 岩の地下水エリア?)[1] is a theme in Super Metroid. It was composed by Minako Hamano.

The theme contains flutes, bells and other aquatic-themed instruments that give it both a serene and brooding tone.

This theme plays in the lower area of Maridia, which resembles the natural rocky underwater environment of the seafloor. The upper area of Maridia plays Maridia Drifting Sand Underwater Area instead.

Unlike many other area themes in Super Metroid, it has yet to be remixed in any future Metroid games. However, this theme was performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Crouch End Festival Chorus as part of Super Metroid: A Symphonic Poem, a medley of Super Metroid themes released on the compilation album The Greatest Video Game Music 2. The medley emphasizes a more lighthearted approach to most of the tracks, in contrast with their eerie portrayals in Super Metroid.

The theme can be heard here.
