Maru City (惑星 マール の 街 Wakusei Māru no Machi) is located on planet Maru and consists of citizens and objects, all of which are round in shape. Samus Aran, Joey Apronika and Diesel arrive here in chapter 2 of Metroid EX: Samus & Joey. The citizens react negatively to their presence, since Joey is not round. However, Diesel is, and Samus is capable of turning into a spherical ball, though this ability was stolen from her. As the citizens leave, a boy trips and tears through his skin, revealing that he is wearing a round suit. His father urges the trio to keep this incident a secret, stating that it is a crime to not be round on Maru. This is because of a law put in place by the planet's ruler Golon, a fanatic obsessed with round things. Anyone who is not round is abducted and imprisoned in Golon's castle never to be seen again.
