Masao Yamamoto

Masao Yamamoto (born 1955 in Kyoto, Japan) is a Japanese former programmer who has worked for Nintendo since 1978. The first lead programmer for R&D1, Yamamoto was the director of programming for Nintendo's earliest games, including Donkey Kong, VS. Balloon Fight, many Game & Watch and Game Boy titles, Metroid and Metroid II: Return of Samus. On the original Metroid, Yamamoto was a director of programming, and is credited as Yamamoto. In recent years, Yamamoto has served as a supervisor for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, and now works in a mostly supportive role.
