Meta-viprium gas is an extremely toxic gas found inside Puffers and Plated Puffers on Tallon IV and possesses some caustic properties; it can quickly kill an organism if inhaled and can tear through even the strongest of metals. It is used mainly as a defense mechanism for the Puffers, discouraging predators from trying to eat them, but it may also be used as a hunting tool and a propulsion system. The gas can be slowly leaked for the uses mentioned above, but it will be violently released if the Puffer dies.
It is similar to the Nohadin gas emitted by Preeds.

Metroid Prime[]
- Puffer
- Unstable gas-filled organism. Will rupture on contact. Puffers fill their bodies with lethal meta-viprium gas and float around in search of food. If ruptured, the gas within the puffer is violently released. Despite their fragile bodies, Puffers are aggressive hunters. The gas cloud they release upon death is often fatal to the creature that brings them down as well.
Trivia[]
- The Power Suit's AI refers to meta-viprium gas as "poison gas".
