Metroid: Alpha Type is the Scan Visor's designation of several Tallon Metroid specimens found within Xenome Containment Units in Research Lab Aether of Tallon IV, during the events of Metroid Prime. It is unknown why they have this designation. Despite the name, they do not have any close relation to Alpha Metroids.
As its scan suggests, it possesses slightly more energy than a normal Tallon Metroid. It has a quicker reaction time in attacking prey and it can only stay frozen in half the time a normal Tallon Metroid can. Given how this type of Metroid was able to thaw much quicker than most other types of Tallon Metroids, it is possible that this was the Pirate's earliest known attempts at trying to create an Unfreezable Metroid (before being retconned).
This creature does not exist in any versions of Metroid Prime after the original NTSC release, including the Wii ports; normal Tallon Metroids appear in the lab instead.

Trivia[]
- In the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Bonus Disc, the Logbook scan for a Tallon Metroid (known simply as a Metroid in the Bonus Disc) mentions that the red Metroids are an "Alpha" strain of Metroid. It is unclear if these red Metroids would have been in someway related to a Metroid: Alpha Type. In the final game, there is no information pertaining to any Alpha types of Metroids.
