Metroid Dread - Free Update Trailer is a trailer for two free updates to Metroid Dread. It aired near the end of the February 9, 2022 Nintendo Direct and was subsequently uploaded to Nintendo's YouTube channel as a separate video.
The trailer can be viewed here.
Description[]
The trailer's narrator outlines the new difficulty modes that are being added to the game - Dread Mode and Rookie Mode - in a title update that was released shortly after the Nintendo Direct. In gameplay clips, Samus is shown being instantly killed by a Dropter, Dizzeans and a Shakernaut; in the latter clip, the camera zooms in on the full Energy Meter for emphasis. As the name of Dread Mode flashes onscreen, a clip plays of Samus avoiding Kraid's spitting projectiles, none of which hit her.
Afterwards, a clip of Samus killing a Muzby with a successful Melee Counter plays. The camera again zooms in on the Energy Meter, which was at a critical 50 units before Samus absorbs the Muzby's Energy Capsules, which replenishes a full Energy Tank and leaves Samus with 94 extra units. This is revealed to be on Rookie Mode, contrasted to Normal Mode where her energy is restored to 45. The name Rookie Mode flashes onscreen while the scene of Samus descending the elevator into Artaria plays. The text onscreen explains that the update adding Dread and Rookie Mode will be released after the presentation, and the demo will be updated as well.
Next, clips of Samus fighting Corpius, Kraid, the Twin Robot Chozo Soldiers in Ferenia, and the first Chozo Soldier in Elun ensue as Boss Rush is revealed to be coming in a second update, slated for April 2022. (It was released on April 7.) After this, the trailer ends.

Trivia[]
- The announcement for the Boss Rush shows Samus battling the Twin Robot Chozo Soldiers in Ferenia and the silver Chozo Soldier in Elun, although these are not among the bosses in the released Boss Rush mode. Instead, she fights the slightly more powerful Robot Chozo Soldier duo in Burenia and the Elite Chozo Soldier in Hanubia.
