The Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Theme[1] is a theme from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. It was composed by Kenji Yamamoto.
Description
The Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Theme is the theme that plays over the Title Screen of Echoes. It is also available in the Soundtrack Gallery of New Play Control! Metroid Prime 2: Dark Echoes and Metroid Prime Trilogy.
The Echoes Theme is largely based upon the original melody of the Metroid Prime Theme, which has been further developed with new variations on the theme. Like with the Metroid Prime Theme, this melody is played with a high-pitched whistle-like synth, but is now accompanied by choir chants, electric guitar riffs, and desert-evocative percussion to fit the setting of Aether. The iconic Title theme is also heard, although more quiet and subdued compared to previous iterations. During the Echoes Theme's second half, a new melody is introduced, sung by a bright and ethereal choir. The Echoes Theme can be heard here: [1]
If the player collects enough items, an alternate version of the Echoes Theme is heard during the ending cutscene where Samus Aran removes her Varia Suit and reveals her Zero Suit. This version removes the whistle-like melody, allowing the harmonic choir chants to sound fuller. It is heard again during the endings of Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, which likewise feature Samus in her Zero Suit. The ending version can be heard here: [2]
A deeper, more ominous version of the Echoes Theme's first few seconds is also used for the post-credits ending where Dark Samus reforms herself above Aether. This version can be heard here: [3]
Despite the game being based on the original Metroid Prime, an abridged version of the Echoes Theme is featured in Metroid Prime Pinball, once again played on the Title Screen. Much like the ending version from Echoes, Hunters, and Corruption, the Pinball version omits the whistle-like melody after the intro, letting the choir chants be the focus of the song. The first few seconds and the latter half of the song is not included. The Pinball theme can be heard here: [4].
The Metroid Prime Trilogy theme is partially based upon the Echoes Theme, specifically the second half with the choir melody. However, whereas the Echoes Theme sounds bright and beautiful, this version is much darker and more dramatic.
Outside of the games, the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Theme was also used on the main page of Metroid.jp's Echoes site. It is also heard in a 2017 First 4 Figures video demonstrating the changes made to the sculpt of the new Varia Suit statue, since its original unveiling in 2016.[2]
