Next Level Games is an independent video game developer based in Vancouver. The company worked on an untitled Metroid game presumably for the Nintendo 3DS, but it was shelved in favor of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.[1] They did develop and release a spinoff of Metroid, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, which was marred by controversy before and after release due to its timing and extreme departure from the traditional gameplay of the Metroid series. The game is not mentioned anywhere on the company website, apart from in job listings. Aside from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, the cancelled Metroid game and Federation Force, Next Level was also responsible for the 2009 Wii game Punch-Out!! as well as its DLC expansion Doc Louis's Punch-Out!!.

Following the release of Federation Force, Next Level was assigned Luigi's Mansion 3 on Nintendo Switch, which was also overseen by Kensuke Tanabe. It features a Federation Force movie poster in the Paranormal Productions level of the game, adjacent to a Punch-Out!! poster.
