—The old man[1]

The "old man" is an unnamed character from the first chapter of Metroid Prime: Episode of Aether.

Physical appearance and personality[]

The character has a mustache and long, messy hair with a light color. He wears a spacesuit that appears to be split in half, with the mid-section appearing to be a ridged undershirt. The old man is untrained for combat and demonstrates fear of danger and for his own life. He had no prior awareness of who Samus Aran was and assumed she was male.

Biography[]

This character is seen in the introduction of the manga, when a Space Pirate group has invaded the Crest and taken hostages. The old man urges the ship's guards to shoot the Pirate Boss, although they are killed easily. Distraught, the man falls to his knees begging for his life. Soon after, Samus Aran arrives in her Gunship, destroying the Space Pirate mothership and slaughtering all the Pirates. The boss takes the old man and a young boy hostage. Threatened with a blade, the man pleads with Samus to lower her Arm Cannon, but she refuses. The boss throws the hostages toward Samus with the intention of killing them, but Samus pushes the man out of the way, evades the boss' attack and kills him before saving the boy.

Afterwards, the old man admonishes Samus for being reckless and seemingly emotionless, though she ignores him and comforts the boy. As Samus leaves, the old man laments not being able to thank her. The child privately disagrees with his emotionless characterization of Samus, since he saw a kindness in her eyes. The old man and other survivors of the Crest are not seen again after the incident.
