Narpas Sword

The Password Screen, with the Narpas Sword password filled out.

The Password Screen is a screen in Western versions of the original Metroid, including any ports of the game. When Samus dies, or if the player wishes to continue from where they left off, they will be brought here to enter a password they received upon dying, or other passwords such as Narpas Sword and Justin Bailey to gain access to items early.

The screen features the words "Pass Word Please" at the top. The 24 digit password can be entered below; passwords consist of numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters, or question marks (?) or hyphens (-). Whereas the uppercase letters and numbers (and the password as it is being entered) are colored light green, the lowercase letters, ? and - are colored light blue.

The Password Screen has not returned in any subsequent console Metroid games due to the introduction of Save Stations in Metroid II: Return of Samus. However, four and five digit codes can be entered in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption via the transmission console, Key Codes or Pirate X-Ray Pads. Additionally, the Metroid Prime flash game grants a password to the player after they have collected all items; this password allows them to restart from where they left off (although they will have to re-obtain the collected Tips). In Metroid: Other M, Samus and MB are seen interacting with a terminal in the Bioweapon Research Center; this screen resembles the Password Screen from Metroid.
