A Phazon Leech is a small organism found in large numbers in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption that feeds on the bioenergy of dead or wounded creatures. They are often found in swarms. They are found on the G.F.S. Valhalla, within the Elysia Seed and the Pirate Homeworld.
They do not present a threat in any way, but a large swarm of them can deal adequate damage.
Killing all of the Phazon Leeches within a Leviathan will earn Samus the "Exterminator" Friend Voucher.

Phazon Leech
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Morphology: Phazon Leech
Nonaggressive scavenger that feeds on wounded and dead bioforms.
Phazon Leeches thrive on the bioenergy drained from weakened and dead prey. They often roam in groups, leaving behind toxic trails as they slide across terrain in search of sustenance. Their bodies are soft and unprotected, making them easy targets to dispatch.
Trivia[]
- The fact that these creatures are small, unimportant life forms, and that they feed on corpses makes them similar to Sbugs in Super Metroid. However, unlike Sbugs, Phazon Leeches do cause damage if they come in contact with Samus, and can be killed.
- The Phazon Leech's planet of origin is unknown. It is first encountered on Elysia within the Leviathan that struck the planet, which might suggest the species crawled their way inside the living meteor following its impact, much like the Scorchbugs did with Bryyo's Leviathan. This is unlikely however due to Elysia being a gas planet, making it unfit for a crawling organism such as the Phazon Leech or its theoretical natural form prior to being corrupted with Phazon. Its classification as a Phazon-based organism with no natural counterpart in the game implies it is native to Phaaze, but no Phazon Leech was seen there during Samus's visit. It should be noted that her visit was very short, leaving the possibility that the creatures were in an unseen area of the planet. If Phaaze is their planet of origin, their presence on the Pirate Homeworld and Elysia can thus be explained by having travelled to both planets via the Leviathans that impacted both worlds. Their appearance in the G.F.S. Valhalla would be a result of the creatures tagging along with the Space Pirates and transferring ships during the raid on the former.
- Alternatively, the Pirate Homeworld could be the planet Phazon Leeches originate from. Pirate ships may have been used as vectors to spread onboard the Valhalla during the attack, and their entry inside Elysia's Leviathan might have occurred when the Pirates were installing the Shield Generators.
