Phazon pod

Phazon pods are objects seen in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Description

Phazon pods are large seed-like containers that store quantities of Phazon inside. They are used by the Space Pirates during the events of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and are very similar to Heavy Phazon Canister, also used by Pirate forces. These Phazon pods are much larger than canisters, but their oval shape makes it harder to stand straight without a proper support. These objects can be viewed as "giant batteries" to empower their attached devices or creatures with a Phazon supply available. Phazon pods are seen within two locations, both inside Pirate facilities:

• The first appearance of Phazon pods is during the opening cutscene of a new game. There is a seemingly infinite quantity of Phazon pods lined on the walls of a storage room, later revealed to be part of the Space Pirate spaceship Colossus. The Phazon particles of Dark Samus's remains manage to stow away inside the ship's storage room while the spacecraft was passing by. Within the storage room, she uses the Phazon pods to rejuvenate her lost Energy, draining one pod at a time until her physical form is restored. Each pod that is drained explodes, with Dark Samus emerging fully restored from one last exploding pod. It is unknown what became of this storage of pods once Dark Samus commandeered the vessel, though it is likely she might have absorbed the remaining quantities of stored Phazon to add to her strength.
• Phazon pods are once again seen inside the Command Vault of the Pirate Homeworld. This is the only instance where Samus can directly interact with these objects. Like the Colossus, many are lined up alongside walls. Along the ceiling is a pulley mechanism that transports these pods either to the storage area nearby or other locations throughout the Homeworld. Samus can shoot a pod, causing it to fall and explode. Samus uses one of these falling pods to explode a locking mechanism nearby, allowing access to the X-Ray Visor.

Additionally, Berserker Lords appear to have a Phazon pod mounted to their back, flanked by two similar smaller containers.

Trivia

• Appearance-wise, they resemble the smaller Cancerous rock nubs seen throughout the Metroid Prime Lair in Metroid Prime.
