Plasma Incendiary Launcher

The Plasma Incendiary Launcher is the Omega Pirate variant of an Elite Pirate Plasma Artillery Cannon.

Description

The Plasma Incendiary Launcher is comprised of two tall dark navy-blue cannons attached to the Omega Pirate's back, and move along with the creature as they keep a constant position of towering height above the creature's head and back. Projectiles are fired from the Launchers only when an opponent is quite far a distance from the Omega Pirate. Unlike a Plasma Artillery Cannon, the Plasma Incendiary Launcher cannot be locked onto with the Thermal Visor. Each launcher can receive damage from Beam or Missile weaponry but Samus would need to manually aim at a Lanuchers's stem in order to inflict any damage to one. Destroying a Launcher will leave the Omega Pirate stunned for a brief moment. Damage dealt isn't displayed so it can be somewhat difficult to tell if a hit lands. In Metroid Prime Remastered, a Launcher glows red when it receives damage. Unlike the rest of the Omega Pirate, the mounted cannons themselves physically do not inflict any contact damage.

Its constant Phazon diet has increased its mass exponentially, but it has retained all mental faculties and shows dexterity with all Elite weaponry, including Plasma Incendiary Launchers and the Chameleon Manta issued for cloaking purposes. Elite Pirate Upsilon exhibits miraculous healing abilities; when injured, it seeks out Phazon deposits and coats itself in the substance, which instantly mends the creature's wounds. The subject, which we are code-naming Omega Pirate based on these developments, shows potential to be a new standard for our armies. Our only concern at this point is its potential overdependence on Phazon."

Trivia

• The projectiles from the Plasma Incendiary Launcher can be scanned when in mid-air. However, the scan's text reads only "This is an Elite Space Pirate. Elite Space Pirate description 3", and does not count towards Logbook completion. The scan's images depict a Parasite, and are in a noticeably different style to the rest of the scan images in the game, presumably due to the fact that they are placeholders.
• Should Samus destroy the pair of Plasma Incendiary Lanuchers and then make her way to the locked Plasma Door keeping a far distance away from the Omega Pirate, the Omega Pirate will walk around in a circle around its current position and strike its intro taunt. The Omega Pirate repeats this pattern until Samus moves enough distance away from the Plasma Door. This behavior is likely contributed to the lack of a long range attack.
