PrimeHack is a modified build of the Dolphin Emulator for Nintendo GameCube. It is used to play Metroid Prime games with a keyboard and mouse, giving it a similar control scheme to more conventional first-person shooters. PrimeHack is compatible with all versions of the three Prime games, including their original and regional releases, New Play Control! ports and Metroid Prime Trilogy, but not the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Bonus Disc or E3 prototype of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.[1]
PrimeHack is compatible with EmuDeck, an emulation app on the Steam Deck, therefore allowing the Trilogy to be played on that console. It was created by an engineer named Shiiion.[2]
Its graphic options disable bloom lighting and bring back the Charge Beam elemental effects in Metroid Prime, which were removed in Trilogy due to technical limitations. PrimeHack also restores the scan dash technique in Prime that is used, for example, to obtain the Space Jump Boots immediately after landing on Tallon IV, removes Friend Voucher requirements for Bonus Gallery rewards, and enables skipping cutscenes.[3]
