The Pseudo Wave Beam, less formally the Pseudowave is a glitch in Metroid Dread. As the fan-coined name implies, it replicates the functionality of the Wave Beam, albeit only under certain conditions (it is incapable of firing downwards).

A Pseudowave can be fired with any beam weapon, including the basic Power Beam. To perform this glitch, Samus must slide under a ceiling or platform she wishes to fire through and, while still sliding, jump. Right when her head touches the ceiling in question her Arm Cannon will clip slightly out of bounds, allowing her to fire a shot that travels through solid matter until it enters the normal gameplay area, at which point it will revert to a normal shot. There is a horizontal version, called the Double Turnaround (DT) Slide. The DT Slide is performed by sliding, and performing two turnarounds in quick succession, and finally firing the shot through the object. The main use of the Pseudo Wave Beam is to shoot certain Breakable Organic Blocks that explode and clear paths through the walls and ceilings when attacked; with precise Pseudowave shots, Samus can shoot these obstacles and clear paths through ZDR earlier than intended. This has a number of flexible uses in sequence breaking, including but not limited to:

  • Skipping the encounter with E.M.M.I.-01P altogether.
  • Avoiding the first encounter with E.M.M.I.-02SM and fighting Corpius early instead.
  • Skipping Drogyga.
