Samus encounters a Hornoad-X.
The Quarantine Bay was a room located on the Main Deck of the Biologic Space Laboratories research station.
As Samus was originally sent to the station to investigate an explosion in the Quarantine Bay, it was her first destination upon her arrival. Once she reached the room, she found it in ruins with a lone Hornoad roaming about. Killing the Hornoad released an X Parasite, revealing the presence of the mass infection taking place on the station.
The infection started when the surgically removed pieces from Samus' Power Suit, having been sent to the Quarantine Bay for study, coalesced into the first SA-X. The SA-X then used a Power Bomb to escape and free the other X-infected samples in the room. As a result, all life onboard the BSL station (excluding the Dachoras and Etecoons on the Habitation Deck and the X's natural predators, the Metroids) were infected by the X Parasites.
