The Quetshocker[1] is an X Parasite hybrid of a Quetzoa and a Ground Shocker, found on ZDR in Metroid Dread.

Description[]

The Quetshocker combines the flying insect-like body of the Quetzoa with the skin texture and electric powers of the Ground Shocker, giving it the appearance of having a cracked outer shell encasing blue electrical energy. One room in Ferenia notably features a normal X-infected Quetzoa; killing it causes its X Parasite to flee Samus and merge with a nearby Ground Shocker before transforming into a Quetshocker.[2] Quetshockers also appear in Hanubia.

Compared to regular Quetzoas, Quetshockers have more health and fire electric projectiles. These projectiles deal 41 units of damage to Samus. If they hit a wall, they will disperse, but if they hit the floor or a platform, they will charge for a moment before sending an electric shock across the surface. This can damage Samus if she is standing there when the electric ball detonates. The projectile can be destroyed in midair with the Screw Attack.[3] A Quetshocker can also move in to charge at Samus; she can Melee Counter this, opening it up to further attack. Much like a Ground Shocker, a Quetshocker is also vulnerable to the Screw Attack and Storm Missiles, which can negate its electric attacks.

Escue, which is also encountered in Ferenia, appears to be an even stronger Quetshocker created by a Core-X.

Trivia[]

  • A Quetshocker is used in the Samus Screen tutorial for the Screw Attack, demonstrating its effectiveness against electric enemies. This Quetshocker does not revert to an X upon defeat, despite the Quetshockers' origin as a hybrid created by the X and not a naturally occurring species.
