A Bryyonian Red Blast Shield in Corruption.

Red Blast Shields can only be destroyed using the Missile Launcher. They only need to be shot once with a Missile (five in all 2-D games except Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid: Samus Returns); after that, the doors they cover turn into Blue Doors. Red Blast Shields can be found in the Metroid Prime Trilogy, however, they are only referred to with the "Red" prefix in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. In the other games in the Trilogy, they are simply called "Blast Shields".

Blast shields that appear in Metroid Prime are mostly gray in color and have a red target-like shape on them that oddly looks like the Targeting Reticule used in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, the Wii versions of the first two games in the trilogy, and Metroid: Other M. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes has Blast Shields that are almost entirely red. Despite exactly the same function, they are different in appearance on every planet, to fit the door design. In Prime, Red Blast Shields are referred to as Missile Door Locks. In Corruption, the Blast Shield design is dependent on what planet that Samus is on. They have also been referred to as Red Doors or Red Hatches.

In Metroid Prime Hunters, Red Blast Shields are opened using the Imperialist, while a single Brown Blast Shield serves the same function as the Red in other games.

After the fight with Rundas, White Blast Shields replace the normal Red variants in Corruption.

In Metroid: Other M, at the beginning of the game, the Galactic Federation 07th Platoon tries to detonate a red blast shield, though they fail horrifically. Samus fires a missile at it, opening it. However, Adam scoffs at her since the missile was unauthorized.

Red Blast Shields contain high amounts of Brinstone within their metals, and are easily damaged by explosive blasts. Once shattered, the Blast Shield will remain destroyed.
