This article is about the background creature in Metroid Dread. For other uses, see Rod (Disambiguation).

Rods[1] are a small species of blue creature in Metroid Dread.

Description[]

The Rod has a long, thin body and six wing-like limbs. They appear in the background of numerous rooms throughout Artaria, including the room explored after Samus awakens from her unconsciousness, which contains tutorials on Sliding and Missile Blocks. Rods always fly in groups of three, and repeatedly follow a consistent route, fading out of visibility at the end of their path before reappearing again at the start. They cannot be harmed by Samus.

In the Chozo Archives, image 05 appears to depict Rods flying in Ghavoran. Unlike the in-game model, this artwork depicts the creatures with only four wings.

It is unknown whether they eventually fell prey to the X; although the X have been known to ignore potentially weak bioforms as hosts, ADAM instructs Samus to assume all life on ZDR becomes infected.

Trivia[]

  • The Rods are likely named after the cryptozoological phenemonon of the same name, due to their resemblance.
