The rotary hatch, in its closed position
The rotary hatch is a malfunctioning door, witnessed in the Piston Hall room of Eastern SkyTown, Elysia, in the original NTSC version of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. According to its scan, its rotational controls may have short-circuited. The hatch rotates at regular intervals, blocking two doorways that lead to both Turbine Access and Concourse. Each movement is accompanied by a loud bang that sends a shockwave through the room. Compounding this is that Samus must Screw Attack over when there is a gap in the hatch, to pass through it successfully.
This hatch was removed and replaced by a disappearing Force Field in the Metroid Prime Trilogy version of Corruption. This is because there was the potential to exit the map by entering the hatch right as the piston in it started to move. As such, the room is now slightly easier to move through.
