Safety release valves are devices that regulate the flow of gas on SkyTown, Elysia. At least five of them are found in the Steambot Barracks room, inside some of the Elysian recharge chambers. They are part of a pressurized gas system that seals the entrance to the room with a pair of metal gates.
After Samus defeats the Steamlord and its Steambots, she must use her Grapple Lasso to rip the valves off of their hinges and release the pressure in the room. They are resistant to her Power Beam and Missile fire. Destroying the valves will allow Samus to return through the Door in which she entered, but to progress through SkyTown she is required to assemble a half-pipe on the floor of the Barracks, and then use it to ascend.
