A Shelmit[1] (シェルミット )[2] is a mollusk-like creature found in Cataris on ZDR, and with shells in Burenia and Ghavoran.
Description[]
Shelmit is a pink creature with eyes around its base and a beak-like maw. Shelmits attach to ceilings or walls. Upon seeing Samus Aran, it launches itself towards her in an explosive kamikaze attack, similar to Shriekbats. This can be negated with a Melee Counter, although Samus still needs to fire after the Counter Hit in order to kill the Shelmit before it explodes.
The Shelmit's most notable habitat is Cataris, but more specimens are found in upper Burenia and in a single room in Ghavoran, near the elevator that connects it to Burenia. The ones in the latter two areas are all covered by a shell and shoot a damaging laser if they see Samus. When the laser is not active, this shell can be torn off by the Grapple Beam, revealing the Shelmit that will proceed with its usual dive-bomb attack. This strategy is subtly hinted by the armored Shelmit glowing with a blue light, reminiscent of Grapple Beam Blocks. Armored Shelmits can be killed with stronger weapons such as Missiles as well, but this takes longer and will not reveal what the creature looks like under its shell.
Later, Shelmits are infected by the X Parasites, but this does not change their appearance or enhance their capabilities beyond what they had before. The X later spawn unarmored Shelmits during the countdown in Hanubia, in an effort to prevent Samus from escaping ZDR.
