Shootactivator in Cataris

A used Shootactivator in the thermal generator room of Cataris.

A Shootactivator[1] is a mechanism in Metroid Dread, primarily used in puzzles within Cataris. On the Map, it is referred to as an Interactive Device, a designation shared with other mechanisms, and any activated Shootactivators/other devices are noted as having been used.

Description[]

Shootactivators are activation switches attached to power generating mechanisms. Their status is indicated by a large circular button, which changes in color depending on activity. When inactive, the button will be black. Once it has power, the color of the button will turn green, indicating it can be shot with a Charge Beam or Missiles. Once activated, the mechanism it is powering will turn on and a wheel on the activator's side will spin.

One is present in the central control system room, where Experiment No. Z-57 is later fought. Another, found in an insulated tube within an extremely hot room, activates a pair of blue magnetic strips that can be used to ascend a long shaft. A third activates another pair of blue magnetic strips, creating a shortcut out of an E.M.M.I. Zone; it also drains magma from the lower half of the same room, which removes the extreme heat in the process.

In Burenia, two Shootactivators appear on either side of Drogyga's room. Once Drogyga has stopped jamming the zip line above it, Samus can fire at a Shootactivator to partially drain the room of water. She can then grapple up to the zip line to reach the other side of Drogyga and shoot the other device. If Drogyga recovers, Samus must repeat this process to drain the water again, making these the only Shootactivators that can be used multiple times. After the boss is defeated, the room remains drained of water, and the Shootactivators remain offline.
