The Slide Jump is a technique Samus Aran can perform in Metroid Dread. To jump this way, she must slide to the edge of a platform and then press the jump button as she begins to fall. She will use her left arm to push herself from the edge and transition into a Spin Jump. Although it will not reach as high, the resulting Spin Jump allows her to reach slightly farther across a gap than it would if she had performed it while running.
A Slide Jump can be performed even when Samus is sliding out of a one-block gap into open air. This proves useful in sequence breaking: through a series of precise Slide Jumps in the superheated rooms of lower-right Dairon, Samus can acquire the Grapple Beam before battling Kraid. This in turn allows her to explore more of Dairon acquire the Bomb upgrade early, which she can finally use to enter Kraid's stomach via a Morph Ball launcher and trivialize the second phase of his boss battle.

"If you Slide right before the edge of a platform and then press the jump button right after you slide off the side, you can jump in the air. This technique allows you to reach spots that are otherwise inaccessible and can open the way for new routes through the map."
