Sounds of Dread is a trailer for Metroid Dread. It was shown on September 23, 2021, during the Nintendo Direct livestream on the same date. It was later uploaded to Nintendo's YouTube channel separately.

The trailer can be viewed in English here, while the Direct segment after the trailer can be viewed here.

Description[]

The trailer begins with letters spelling out "Dread", overlapping with scenes of Samus's first encounter with the damaged E.M.M.I.-01P.

As the logo appears, ADAM can be heard saying "You are faced with overwhelming power. Your highest priority should be simply to survive." A montage of Samus's encounters with E.M.M.I.-02SM, 04SB, and 03MB and Corpius plays out. The scenes end with Samus being caught with each color of E.M.M.I., cutting away just before they kill her.

Following this, a clip is shown of Samus touching a destroyed Central Unit and gaining the Omega Cannon, as ADAM tells her: "There may be a very small opportunity to escape. Don't let your guard down."

A sequence of clips follows, of Samus inserting her Arm Cannon into a Map Station, her Power Suit glowing as she collects a new item, and Speed Boosting and Shinesparking in the Dairon E.M.M.I. Zone.

The trailer cuts to Samus in her Varia Suit, landing in front of Kraid, who roars at her. More clips depict Samus using the Melee Counter to destroy an Autclast, using the Flash Shift above a Robot Chozo Soldier, using the Grapple Beam on a point, evading a blast from the Chozo in their initial encounter, and E.M.M.I.-05IM and 04SB. Finally, there is a flash of Samus's eyes widening as she is engulfed by a purple energy, following her fight with the Chozo. The game's logo is displayed as the trailer ends, with eerie ambience.

An additional segment followed Sounds of Dread in the Direct. The narrator gives details about the basic plot for Dread, and mentions some of ZDR's locations, which were previously revealed in Volume 8 of the Metroid Dread Report. The narrator references Volume 8 and encourages players to read the report and its other volumes. This was later uploaded separately to YouTube, titled Metroid Dread – Nintendo Direct 9.23.2021.

The music heard in this trailer is not included in the game. It is an excerpt of Night of the Drowned, a licensed track composed by Dream Cave. It was also used in the Find Your Power advertisement.

Transcript of second segment[]

Samus Aran, the most powerful bounty hunter in the galaxy, embarks on a new mission to the uncharted planet ZDR.

Her objectives: confirm whether the deadly X Parasite still exists, and figure out why the E.M.M.I. research robots in search of it have mysteriously gone dark.

Early readings reveal that planet ZDR is divided into multiple environments, each with its own elements and organisms.

Remnants of the mighty Chozo civilization are also scattered throughout, including evidence that the Chozo may have once called the planet their home.
