Spider Magnet

The Spider Magnet is a new power-up that appears in Metroid Dread. It was first revealed in the Development History video, and then showcased in the subsequent Treehouse Live event. Acquired by destroying E.M.M.I.-02SM in Artaria, the ability allows Samus to climb walls and along ceilings that are marked with blue magnetic strips. In this way, the item is similar to the Spider Ball of past Metroid games, and ladders in Metroid Fusion. Some magnetic surfaces are attached to tracks which will only move when Samus latches onto them with the ability. Samus is also able to latch onto the bottom of some magnetic platforms to lower them with her weight.

Yoshio Sakamoto comments[]

As you acquire abilities, Samus will gain more moves. And with those added moves, the range of areas Samus can explore expands. That's how it works. Of course, some of these abilities are brand new. For example, the Spider Magnet, which lets you latch onto certain walls or ceilings and move along them.
