Stalactites are hanging rock or ice structures that appear in Metroid Prime. They are located in certain rooms in the Magmoor Caverns and Phendrana Drifts. They can be dislodged with a Missile, causing them to fall and serve as platforms. They will also kill any creatures they fall on top of, notably Magmoors, and one reveals a Missile Expansion.

Similar icicles appear on Excelcion during M19: Incursion in Metroid Prime: Federation Force. They occasionally fall on an Ice Titan.

Larger stalactites serve a nearly identical function in the Cryosphere of Metroid: Other M, often serving as platforms to cross bodies of water. They are sometimes knocked down by Kyratians.

This hanging rock structure appears to have a weak spot near its base. Some stalactites can be dislodged from ceilings, allowing them to be used as platforms to cross otherwise unreachable areas.

Gravity Chamber: The ice of this stalactite contains many different types of mineral deposits. One of the minerals detected in the ice structure appears to be a volatile form of volcanic rock. This rock makes the formation incredibly strong against tremors and concussive blasts, but it will become unstable if heat is introduced.

Trivia

The lock-on function of the Missiles and Super Missiles does not work on stalactites in the Metroid Prime Trilogy version of Prime, requiring a manual aim to dislodge the formation.
