Stalactite

A Stalactite in the Phendrana Drifts.

Stalactites are hanging rock or ice structures that appear in Metroid Prime. They are located in certain rooms in the Magmoor Caverns and Phendrana Drifts. They can be dislodged with a Missile, causing them to fall and serve as platforms. They will also kill any creatures they fall on top of, notably Magmoors, and one reveals a Missile Expansion.

Similar icicles appear on Excelcion during M19: Incursion in Metroid Prime: Federation Force. The mission's bonus objective requires the Federation Force to drop at least one on an Ice Titan.

Larger stalactites serve a nearly identical function to those of Prime in one room of the Cryosphere of Metroid: Other M, serving as platforms to cross bodies of water. They are sometimes knocked down by a Kyratian's energy projectiles as well.

This hanging rock structure appears to have a weak spot near its base.

Some stalactites can be dislodged from ceilings, allowing them to be used as platforms to cross otherwise unreachable areas.

Gravity Chamber
"The ice of this stalactite contains many different types of mineral deposits. One of the minerals detected in the ice structure appears to be a volatile form of volcanic rock. This rock makes the formation incredibly strong against tremors and concussive blasts, but it will become unstable if heat is introduced."
