The "stalactite cavern" is a room in Sector 2 / Cryosphere. It appears in Metroid: Other M.

Description[]

The cavern is long and consists of icy ledges rising out of a river of ice water. The walls are formed of ice, with icicles and frozen runoff hanging off of them. Light from an unknown source can be seen pouring into the room through gaps in the outer walls. In the center of the room is a large bank of snow, which protrudes slightly from its lower half. On the other side of the lake is another shore, which contains the exit. To cross the room, a number of hanging stalactites (referred to as pillars in Metroid: Other M Premiere Edition) must be knocked down using Missiles, similar to stalactites found in the Phendrana Drifts during Metroid Prime. The energy attacks used by two Kyratians in the cavern may also knock down some of the stalactites.

When Samus enters the room for the first time, the door locks behind her and a Kyratian is seen firing at two of the stalactites, knocking them down. Samus knocks down a third one, allowing her to cross the tops of the stalactites to reach the Kyratian and defeat it. Should she fall or be knocked into the water, she can climb out by returning to the shore where she began crossing the river, or the middle bank of snow.

Stalactite cavern - fallen stalactites

Several fallen stalactites, creating platforms for Samus to cross the river.

Said bank offers her more space to dispatch the first Kyratian. Another Kyratian can be found hanging on an ice pillar above the exit platform, and will fire energy projectiles at Samus as she approaches. Once the first Kyratian is defeated, the second will drop down and attack Samus directly, the Lockdown Battle Theme beginning to play. Defeating the second Kyratian unlocks the door, allowing Samus to continue. There is a Missile Tank underneath the platform with the door, in a hidden tunnel under the water.

For unknown reasons, the minimap disappears from the Heads-Up Display shortly after Samus arrives in this cavern. This happens around the time that the first Kyratian knocks the stalactites down.

"Enter the next chamber to find a Kyratian perched on a distant platform across a small water passage. As you enter, the monster blasts the ceiling above and sends several ice pillars crashing down into the water. Luckily, the fallen pillars create a path across the water. Move across the pillars and destroy the Kyratian. With the enemy out of the way, look to the ceiling and blast down the only remaining pillar to complete the path across the water.
Cross the room, eliminating one more Kyratian in your way, then save your progress at the next Navigation Booth."

"After obtaining the Gravity Feature for your suit, you will no longer be negatively effected by water physics. Return to this area and Space Jump up to the small hole in the wall. Pull yourself up into the short tunnel and grab the Missile Tank."
