Subchamber Five is a room in Metroid Prime, the last of the five "subchambers" in the Impact Crater. Unlike the preceding four chambers, no fighting nor occurs here, and there is little to no gameplay to be had. The room's significance is to serve as the entryway into the Metroid Prime Lair. Samus merely walks close enough to the hole, where she will then examine it and drop through a long vertical shaft on her way to the final battle with Metroid Prime.
Description[]
When Samus defeats Metroid Prime, the creature staggers back into a weakened wall, blasting through it and falling down all of Subchamber Five into the Metroid Prime Lair. Samus walks to the edge of the chamber, observing the drop, and jumps down after the creature.
Many Phazon growths can be seen covering the walls of the cavern when Samus overlooks the edge. They seem to get larger towards the Lair, where more are soon witnessed.
Connecting rooms[]
- Subchamber Four (one way entrance)
- Metroid Prime Lair (one way exit)
Trivia[]
- If Samus walks into the room very slowly, she will be inside the room without triggering the cutscene (as displayed on the Map). This occurs likely because the flag to trigger the cutscene isn't applied to the entire room's area and players are expected to rush into the room, activating the trigger point for the next cutscene easily. There isn't much Samus can do within the room itself besides look and move around to a certain distance.
- Using hacking to disable the cutscene and load the room without the trigger flag, Samus can explore further around the room. There is solid ground around the rim of the hole and the Phazon growths are all solid. If the room is loaded this way, the hole leading to Metroid Prime Lair will naturally lead to Out of Bounds.
- Unlike the Metroid Prime Lair, the Phazon growths in this room are invincible.
