Substation East is a room on Norion. It appears in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. It has an undamaged counterpart further into the facility, Substation West.
Description[]
This room consists of a Morph Ball tunnel and a super heated floor. Samus must use the Morph Ball tunnel to avoid taking damage from the heated coils. She must move fast through the Morph Ball tunnel, as air circulation pistons found along one side of the tunnel are activated and could easily push Samus out of the tunnel to the superheated floor. After the Space Pirate attack, Samus can find a Fleet Mechanic on the north side of the room. An Energy Tank can be found in the Morph Ball tunnel in plain view.

Tutorial[]

Development notes[]
The internal name for this room is 0y_gfplanet_jhalleast. The keyword gfplanet indicates the planet Norion, and the alphabetic prefix 0y on Norion indicates one of two junction halls on this planet of this "Substation" type.
In a demo of Corruption at E3 2006, this room had a tutorial for the Bomb Jump, with no mention of the Spring Ball, and the Energy Tank was absent.[1]
Matt Manchester designed this room. His notes are below:
"My first room was just at the tail end of the Galactic federation planet and ship worlds. there were two versions, a damaged east hallway that forced you to use the morphball tunnel, and an undamaged west hallway: [pictures]."
Trivia[]
- Although it looks like the Energy Tank in this room is unavoidable, Samus can find a small spot in the Morph Ball tunnel to enter right past the Energy Tank.
- The prototype version of this room is vastly different. Here, there is a walkable pathway and the coils are stationed off to the side inside a pit close to the edge of the walkway. This appearance heavily resembles the layout of Substation West.
