Super Metroid - Into Red, Into Dark is an orchestrated medley of themes from Super Metroid, arranged by Jonne Valtonen.[1] It was performed by the WDR Radio Orchestra, and produced by Merregnon Studios as part of the live concert Symphonic Selections.[2]
Description[]
Super Metroid - Into Red, Into Dark is 9 minutes and 9 seconds in length. The concert was originally performed on November 22, 2013 in Cologne Philharmonic Hall in Germany. Merregnon Studios had previously produced other series of orchestral game concerts, including Symphonic Legends and Symphonic Fantasies,[2] but Symphonic Selections is one of the few to feature music from the Metroid series. Unlike the controversial Suite: Samus Aran - Galactic Warrior from Symphonic Legends, Super Metroid - Into Red, Into Dark is more focused on clearly incorporating familiar melodies.[1]
In order, Super Metroid - Into Red, Into Dark features the following tracks: Theme of Samus, Opening (Destroyed Science Academy Research Station), Norfair Ancient Ruins Area, Big Boss Confrontation (Kraid, Crocomire, Phantoon), Mother Brain, Crateria - The Space Pirates Appear, Lower Brinstar, a reprise of Mother Brain, Crateria Surface, and Theme of Samus Aran, Space Warrior. Reprises of Theme of Samus are also scattered throughout the medley.
Super Metroid - Into Red, Into Dark maintains much of the darkness and unsettling dissonance of the original game's soundtrack. The only bright spots are the occasional triumphant bursts of Theme of Samus, as well as Crateria Surface offering respite after the Mother Brain theme.
