A unique, currently unnamed Metroid strain used by Sylux and his Space Pirate allies featured in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. It's unknown how they came to exist, though the secret ending of the prequel game, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, shows Sylux gaining access to a Metroid specimen captured by the Galactic Federation.
Physiology[]
At first glance, Sylux's Metroids greatly resemble the Mochtroid strain due to its singular nucleus enclosed within the green translucent membrane. That's where the similarities end, as this Metroid's nucleus is immense by comparison and, like regular Metroid larvae and the many strains resembling it, the organ is firmly seated on an organic mound on which the creature's fangs are rooted to from the underside. Attached to the front of the nucleus however is a brown-colored structure that stretches from the base.

The underside
Sylux's Metroids have a total of eight fangs, and each pair differs in size: the largest are approximately where they are expected to be but the second largest pair are much further in the back, and the two smallest pairs are close to the front. Unlike the more modern depictions of standard Metroid larvae, the underside lacks a leech-like maw, making this strain similar to several Tallon IV subspecies.
Their cries are identical to those made by a Tallon Metroid.
Abilities[]
These Metroids display a power entirely unique to their strain: they fuse with the creature they sink their fangs into instead of devouring its life-energy. As it lunges towards a target, its membrane emits an electrical glow which intensifies when the creature latches onto and enters its host. The organism it fused will immediately begin to have an area of its body glow with green energy before an unnatural growth appears at the same location, though ones can appear elsewhere on the body. These growths are identical to a Metroid's membrane, and each one contains a nucleus larger than the one inside the initial Metroid. Samus' Scan Visor describes the entire process as "Metroid fusion", which enhances the abilities of the host (and potentially granting entirely new abilities) but also makes its mind fall under the Metroid's control.
Sylux's Metroids appear to be fully tame, as he is seen with a pair of these following him close behind and do not display aggression towards other nearby organisms. It is currently unknown what method Sylux has used to make them obedient. So far, the only Metroid that has displayed aggression is the one that attaches to Aberax. However, the large Space Pirate appears to have been willing for the fusion to take place, and the Metroid ultimately assists in the Space Pirates' cause; with the host under its control, the newly formed hybrid provides support by fighting Samus while other Pirates continue in their attempt at acquiring the artifact.
The only other organism that has been witnessed so far fusing with this strain of Metroid is the Carvex.
Trivia[]
- The act of a Metroid merging with its host being named "Metroid fusion" is likely an homage to the game with the same name, in which Samus becomes a Metroid hybrid through a vaccine.
